About Palumbo Park in Philadelphia
Palumbo Park is a well-used neighborhood pocket park located in the Bella Vista area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Situated mid-block on Catharine Street, the park is nestled between the Fleisher Art Memorial and the Da Vinci Art Alliance. This small urban green space serves as a vital community gathering spot for local residents and visitors alike.
The park underwent a significant renovation, reopening in Fall 2016 with several improvements. These enhancements included an expanded and ADA-accessible entrance, new seating arrangements, improved ground surfacing, and expanded plantings. The refurbishment, led by Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, aimed to make the park more welcoming and functional for all users.
Palumbo Park boasts a diverse array of flora, adding natural beauty to the urban landscape. Visitors can enjoy the sight of Hummingbird Summersweet, Christmas and Southern Wood Fern, Dwarf Fetterbush, and Oakleaf Hydrangea. The park is also home to several Sycamore trees, whose distinctive bark adds visual interest throughout the seasons.
The Friends of Palumbo Park, a registered community group, actively stewards the park. They organize various activities including clean-ups, plantings, and community events. The group also engages in advocacy for park improvements, grant writing, and fundraising to support the park's ongoing maintenance and development.
