Republic Square

Republic Square is a one-acre urban park located in downtown Austin, Texas. The park occupies a city block bounded by Guadalupe, San Antonio, 4th and 5th streets. It is one of three remaining public squares from Austin's original 1839 city plan.

The park features large heritage oak trees, including the historic Auction Oaks where the first lots in Austin were auctioned off in 1839. There is a central lawn area surrounded by paved walkways and seating areas. Native plants and landscaping can be found throughout the park.

Republic Square hosts community events and activities, including a weekly farmers market on Saturdays. A small kiosk in the park provides restrooms and a café. The park underwent major renovations in 2017 to add amenities and improve the space for public use.

As a downtown green space, Republic Square offers visitors a place to relax, have lunch, or attend community gatherings amid the surrounding urban environment. Its central location makes it accessible to workers, residents and tourists in the heart of Austin.
