About Glenwood Park in Fort Worth
Glenwood Park is a historic 37-acre green space located in the Historic Southside neighborhood of Fort Worth, Texas. The park was established in 1927 when the city purchased 31.66 acres of land from Mrs. Bell Tyler for $8,000.
Situated along a busy north-south arterial road, Glenwood Park features open fields, wooded areas, and a creek running through it. The park once contained Tyler's Lake, a privately owned beauty spot popular with local residents, though the lake was later drained.
Over the years, Glenwood Park has received various improvements. In 2006-2007, the park's shelter was replaced as part of the Small Capital Projects Work Crew Plan. More recently, the Fort Worth Climate Safe Neighborhood Coalition has been working to revitalize the long-neglected park, hosting clean-up events and advocating for further enhancements.
The City of Fort Worth is currently developing a master plan for future improvements to Glenwood Park. Community input sessions have been held to gather ideas from residents on desired upgrades and amenities. Proposed additions include a splash pad, new pedestrian bridge, volleyball courts, basketball hoops, more trash cans, and pavilions.
Glenwood Park serves as an important green space for the surrounding community, providing opportunities for recreation, relaxation, and community gatherings. Its revitalization efforts aim to increase equitable access to safe, sustainable green space in the area.
