Hillside Park

Hillside Park is a 24.1-acre public park located in Fort Worth, Texas. Established in 1911, the park offers visitors a picturesque setting with rolling terrain and stunning views of downtown Fort Worth's skyline. The park's name aptly describes its topography, as it sits on land once owned by E.B. Daggett, son of Ephraim M. Daggett, who is considered by many to be the father of Fort Worth.

Over the years, Hillside Park has undergone several expansions and improvements. In the 1930s, general enhancements were made, including the construction of roads, walks, and a combination shelter house. During the mid-20th century, as the demographics of the surrounding neighborhood changed, the park was designated for use by African Americans. In 1960, a swimming pool was added to the park's amenities.

The park's hilly terrain makes it less suitable for large athletic fields, but it offers other recreational opportunities. In 2014, a much-anticipated walking trail was opened to the public, spearheaded by lifelong Hillside resident Mary Ellen Blakemore. This addition has made the park more accessible and enjoyable for fitness enthusiasts and casual strollers alike.

Hillside Park is not just a place for outdoor activities; it also houses the Atatiana Carr-Jefferson Community Center, formerly known as the Hillside Community Center. Built in 1970, this facility offers various programs and activities for the local community, including after-school programs and free-play basketball.
