About Overton Park in Fort Worth
Overton Park is a linear park located in southwest Fort Worth, Texas. Originally part of the historic Edwards Ranch, the park was established in 1959 when the Cassco Land Company deeded approximately 12 acres of land to the city for public use. Over time, additional acreage was acquired, and today the park encompasses approximately 49 acres.
The park creates a greenbelt that connects the Tanglewood and Overton Park neighborhoods to the north with Foster Park to the south. It follows the Clear Fork of the Trinity River, providing a natural corridor through the urban landscape. The park's layout is predominantly north-south oriented, with its width varying between 100 and 150 feet throughout its approximately one-mile length.
Overton Park offers a mix of recreational facilities and natural areas. The park features trails for walking, jogging, and cycling, allowing visitors to enjoy the outdoors and stay active. In 2008, extensive trail improvements were made to enhance the park experience. The park also includes open green spaces, providing opportunities for picnicking, relaxation, and informal play.
In recent years, the City of Fort Worth has continued to invest in Overton Park's infrastructure. The 2022 Bond Program allocated funds for streambank stabilization projects within the park, addressing erosion concerns and improving the overall environmental health of the area. Additionally, plans were made to install a new playground in 2023, further enhancing the park's appeal to families and young visitors.
