About Lou Huff Park in Garland
Lou Huff Park is a public recreational area located in Garland, Texas. Spanning over 14 acres of developed parkland, this neighborhood park offers a variety of outdoor amenities for visitors of all ages.
The park features a large softball field with a backstop, which can also be used for baseball. The field is lighted, allowing for evening games and practices. The outfield area is versatile, accommodating soccer and football activities as well. It's important to note that while the field is available for various sports, goals and bases are not provided by the park.
Lou Huff Park boasts a recently updated playground area, completed in October 2021. The 7,500-square-foot playground includes poured-in-place rubberized surfacing for safety and colorful, unique equipment. Among the playground features are a zipline course, swing set, slide, seesaw, and musical instrument/learning wall panels. A large global motion spinner and other motion elements add to the interactive play experience.
For sports enthusiasts, the park offers a basketball court and a tennis court. These facilities provide additional options for active recreation and community engagement.
The park's history is noteworthy, as it was named after Lou (Lula) Huff around the 1950s. It was formerly home to the Lou Huff Recreation Center, which was the first original recreation center in Garland. While the recreation center is no longer operational, the park continues to serve as a valuable community space.
