About Eastwood Park in Houston
Eastwood Park is a historic green space located in the East End area of Houston, Texas. Established in 1916 by the City of Houston, the park spans 10.8 acres along Harrisburg Boulevard. It has served as a beloved recreational spot for the community for decades, offering a variety of amenities and activities for visitors of all ages.
The park underwent extensive renovations in the 1970s, which included repairs and additions to the Eastwood Community Center, as well as improvements to various park facilities. In 1982, the Houston Chapter of the American Institute of Architects recognized Eastwood Park with an Award of Distinguished Achievement for its outstanding contribution to the city's environment.
More recently, Eastwood Park has been the focus of a comprehensive master plan developed in collaboration between the Harrisburg Redevelopment Authority, the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, and community residents. This plan, completed in 2022, outlines a vision for future improvements to be implemented in two phases.
Phase I improvements, expected to begin in late 2024 and be completed by early 2028, will include a new and expanded play area, a new skate park, enhancements to the basketball courts, and the replacement of the baseball field with a multipurpose open space. The plan also includes new walking paths, seating areas, shade structures, lighting, landscaping, and drainage improvements.
Future Phase II improvements are set to include a new, better-equipped community center, community-focused outdoor gathering spaces, a new swimming pool, and expanded parking facilities. The existing community center is proposed to be integrated into the new swimming pool area.
