About Lakeside Park in Chesapeake
Lakeside Park is an 11-acre public park located in the South Norfolk borough of Chesapeake, Virginia. Built in 1933, the park features mature trees and is centered around a scenic lake.
A notable feature of the park is its arched footbridge that spans the lake, providing picturesque views. Along the north side of the lake, extending from the bridge, is a walkway lined with granite monuments known as the Lakeside Veterans' Walk Memorial. This memorial, dedicated by the South Norfolk Ruritans, commemorates those who gave their lives in service from World War I through the Gulf War. The memorial walkway ends at a garden area with a flagpole.
The park offers a mix of natural scenery and recreational amenities for visitors to enjoy. Its lakeside setting, mature tree canopy, and memorial walkway create a tranquil atmosphere for relaxation and reflection. At the same time, the playground, picnic areas, and fishing opportunities provide options for more active recreation.
