About Solstice Park in Seattle
Solstice Park is a 7.17-acre public park located in West Seattle, Washington. Formerly known as Lincoln Park Annex, it was renamed and redesigned in the early 2000s. The park is situated across the street from Lincoln Park on Fauntleroy Way SW.
The park's most distinctive feature is its astronomical theme, centered around a stone and earth construction designed to mark the summer and winter solstices, as well as the spring and fall equinoxes. This unique sundial-like structure offers visitors an opportunity to observe and celebrate these celestial events.
Solstice Park provides panoramic views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains, making it a popular spot for sunset watching and stargazing. A short hiking trail leads visitors up the hill to the park's overlook, where the stonework circle and best views can be found.
The park incorporates various sustainable features and was developed on a former Seattle City Light surplus site. It also includes a community garden and P-Patch, allowing local residents to grow their own produce and flowers.
Solstice Park is open from 4:00 AM to 11:30 PM, providing ample time for daytime activities and nighttime stargazing. Its location and unobstructed western horizon make it one of the better public places within Seattle city limits for observing the night sky.
