The park is currently undergoing repairs and renovations to better serve its community. Parks Tacoma has worked collaboratively with local residents to develop a master plan for the park, aiming to reimagine opportunities for future investment and enhance its recreational, open space, public health, and cultural value.
Portland Avenue Park is open from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. The park features a variety of amenities for visitors of all ages, including play areas, sports facilities, and open spaces. The playground area includes wood fiber surfacing surrounded by a walkway, swings, and various play elements for children.
The park also houses a community center, which is currently leased by the Asian Pacific Cultural Center. Visitors interested in using the community center facilities should check the center's website for operating hours and directions.
Partnerships with the Puyallup Tribe are bringing Native American art to the district and the Portland Avenue Community Center, adding cultural significance to the park and its surroundings.
