About Firemans Park in Tacoma
Fireman's Park is a small urban park located in downtown Tacoma, Washington at the intersection of South 9th Street and A Street. Originally the site of Engine House #6 built in 1890, the park was established after the firehouse was demolished in 1974.
The park's most prominent feature is a 110-year-old, 85-foot tall totem pole that was stabilized as part of a restoration project. This historic totem pole serves as a focal point and provides a connection to the area's Native American heritage.
Situated on a bluff overlooking Commencement Bay, Fireman's Park offers visitors panoramic 180-degree views of the Port of Tacoma, the Thea Foss Waterway, and on clear days, Mount Rainier in the distance. The park's elevated position makes it an excellent vantage point for observing port activities and enjoying scenic vistas of the surrounding landscape.
While small in size, Fireman's Park serves as a quiet urban oasis and a popular spot for locals and visitors to take in the views or enjoy a brief respite from the surrounding city environment. Its location in the heart of Tacoma makes it easily accessible for those exploring the downtown area.
