About McPike Park in Madison
McPike Park is a 9.21-acre community park located on S. Ingersoll St. in Madison, Wisconsin. Formerly known as Central Park, it was officially renamed in April 2018 to honor Milton McPike, a longtime principal of East High School who served the Madison community as a leader and educator.
The park features Madison's first skatepark, which opened in September 2015. Known as the Irwin A. and Robert D. Goodman Skatepark, it is free and open daily during regular park hours from 4 am to 10 pm, with lighting scheduled from dusk until 10 pm from April 15 to October 15.
McPike Park hosts numerous festivals and events throughout the year, including a weekly farmers' market from spring through fall. The park is situated along the East Isthmus rail corridor and originated from local neighborhood groups interested in revitalizing a post-industrial area.
The park's design, developed by MSA, provides an urban green space with several bicycle and pedestrian paths, a restroom pavilion, and a large plaza space. It serves as a community gathering place and recreational area for residents and visitors alike.
