About Southside Park in Little Rock
Southside Park is a major city park in Little Rock, Arkansas, spanning approximately 211 acres near the city's southern boundary. The park was acquired by the City of Little Rock in the 1970s, with the most recent addition of 44 acres in 2002, making it the largest park in Atlanta at that time.
The park features diverse topography, ranging from scenic knolls to extensive wetland systems around Poole Creek. This varied landscape has allowed for the subdivision of the park into several character districts, each with its own unique features and purposes.
Southside Park includes both developed and undeveloped areas. The developed portions of the park contain various recreational facilities, while a significant portion remains in its natural state, providing opportunities for nature exploration and conservation.
Despite its size and potential, Southside Park has historically been underutilized. The park has faced challenges such as limited access, inadequate lighting, and noise from nearby Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. However, efforts have been made to address these issues and improve the park's amenities and accessibility.
