About Bixby Knolls Park in Long Beach
Bixby Knolls Park is a neighborhood park located in Long Beach, California, on San Antonio Drive. The park spans approximately 3.9 acres and serves as a local recreational space for the Bixby Knolls community.
The park's history dates back to 1948 when the Jotham Bixby Company donated the land while it was still in the county. It was annexed to the City of Long Beach in 1949. The conditions of the gift included naming it "Bixby Knolls Park," immediate improvement of the land, and installation of a marker indicating the source of the donation.
In February 1950, the Long Beach City Council approved a development plan for the park, and initial construction began in June of that year. Over time, various improvements have been made to enhance the park's facilities and appeal to local residents.
One of the park's main features is its playground, which was redeveloped with new equipment in 1998. This upgrade was funded by the Los Angeles County Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond Act of 1992, demonstrating ongoing efforts to maintain and improve the park's amenities for community use.
Bixby Knolls Park provides a green space for various activities, including casual recreation, picnicking, and children's play. Its location within a residential area makes it a convenient spot for local families and individuals to enjoy outdoor leisure time.
