About C. David Molina Park in Long Beach
C. David Molina Park is a 3.3-acre neighborhood park in Long Beach, California. The park, which opened on August 21, 2018, is named after Dr. C. David Molina, a prominent figure in Long Beach's medical community.
Dr. Molina started the city's first intensive care unit at Pacific Hospital in 1962 and served as the hospital's Emergency Department Director for 21 years. He developed Long Beach's paramedic system and trained the city's first firefighters to become paramedics. In 1980, he opened a clinic in Long Beach to serve low-income individuals and families, which later grew into Molina Healthcare, a Fortune 500 multi-state health care organization.
The park shares its western border with the Dominguez Gap Wetlands Trail along the Los Angeles River, providing a connection to the natural environment. It features a sports field with synthetic turf, lighting, and fencing, offering a space for various athletic activities.
C. David Molina Park was designed to serve the local community, providing recreational opportunities and green space in North Long Beach. Its development is part of the city's efforts to increase park access and improve quality of life for residents.
