About Temescal Canyon Park in Los Angeles
Temescal Canyon Park is a 141-acre natural area located in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The park is situated in the Santa Monica Mountains and offers visitors access to scenic canyons, ridgetop views, and miles of hiking trails.
The park features a network of trails that wind through oak and sycamore canyons, providing opportunities for hiking and nature observation. One popular route is the Temescal Canyon Trail, which forms a loop of approximately 2.6 miles and includes both canyon and ridge sections. Hikers can enjoy panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, as well as glimpses of the Los Angeles skyline on clear days.
Temescal Canyon Park is home to a year-round stream, Temescal Creek, which runs through the lower portion of the canyon. During wetter seasons, visitors may encounter a small waterfall along the creek. The park's diverse plant communities include coastal sage scrub, chaparral, and riparian woodlands, supporting a variety of native flora and fauna.
The park serves as a gateway to the larger "Big Wild" area, connecting to additional trails in Topanga State Park and Will Rogers State Historic Park. This provides more extensive hiking and exploration opportunities for those seeking longer outdoor adventures.
Temescal Gateway Park, located at the entrance to the canyon, offers additional facilities and serves as the main access point for many visitors. This area includes picnic grounds, restrooms, and parking facilities.
