About Harmon Park in Bend
Harmon Park is one of Bend's oldest public parks, located along the shores of the Deschutes River across from Drake Park in downtown Bend, Oregon. The park spans 3.7 acres and offers a variety of recreational opportunities for visitors of all ages.
Originally acquired by Bend Kiwanis with a donation from New York philanthropist William Harmon, the park has been a cherished community space since 1977. In 2000, Harmon Park underwent a major rehabilitation, including updates to its irrigation system, sidewalks, playground area, and sports facilities.
One of the park's most notable features is its popular playground, which includes a beloved boat structure that has been a longtime fixture, earning the park the nickname "Boat Park" among locals. The playground area provides entertainment for children with multiple play structures and swings.
Harmon Park also serves as a hub for youth and adult sports activities. It features two softball fields that are used for soccer in the fall, catering to various seasonal sporting events and community leagues. The ample green space and large shade trees make it an ideal spot for picnics and relaxation.
Located conveniently near downtown Bend, Harmon Park offers a small river access point through a fence gate behind the Hobby Hut and Boat House, which now function as an Outdoor Center for various outdoor programs. The park's proximity to the river and its central location make it a popular destination for both residents and visitors looking to enjoy outdoor activities in the heart of Bend.
