About Wayne Morse Family Farm in Eugene
Wayne Morse Family Farm is a 27-acre city park located in Eugene, Oregon. The park was formerly the home and farm of long-time United States Senator Wayne Morse, who served from 1944 to 1968. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Wayne Morse Farm.
The park features a historic house that was built in 1936 and designed by University of Oregon architecture professor Wallace S. Hayden. The two-story Colonial Revival wood frame structure has a gable roof and wood siding. In addition to the main house, there is a detached garage and stable that are considered contributing structures to the property's historic designation.
The grounds of Wayne Morse Family Farm include natural wooded areas, open meadows, and grassy lawns. Nature trails wind through the park, allowing visitors to explore the varied landscape. A large fenced off-leash dog exercise area is popular with local pet owners.
The City of Eugene manages the park, which is open daily from 6 AM to 11 PM for public use. Visitors can enjoy nature walks, picnicking, and learning about the site's history. A picnic shelter is available for rent from May through October. While the interior of the historic Wayne Morse house is not regularly open to the public, the exterior and surrounding grounds provide insight into the former Senator's life and legacy.
