About Sandybrook Park in Fort Worth
Sandybrook Park is a 2.92-acre neighborhood park located in Fort Worth, Texas. The park site is situated in the Sandybrook Addition, a subdivision developed by Fox & Jacobs, Inc. The City Council approved the purchase of land for this park on January 13, 1981.
Shortly after its dedication, Sandybrook Park quickly became popular among area residents. Initial improvements to the park included picnic facilities and a playground. More substantial enhancements, such as a shelter and additional playground equipment, were added around 1989. Further improvements were implemented in 1999.
The park features a short 0.10-mile ADA-compliant cement trail that connects to the playground, providing accessibility for visitors. Geologically, the park is evenly split between Grayson Marl and Main Street Limestone Formations and the Woodbine Formation, offering an interesting backdrop for nature enthusiasts.
Sandybrook Park is part of the Eastern Cross Timbers ecosystem, a narrow wooded area that historically ran from eastern Cooke County on the Red River south to western Hill County. The park's vegetation includes species typical of this ecosystem, such as post oak, blackjack oak, Mexican plum, possumhaw, eastern red cedar, greenbriar, and various shade-loving bunchgrasses and forbs.
The park serves as a valuable green space for the local community, providing opportunities for recreation, relaxation, and connection with nature within an urban setting.
