About Stratford Park in Fort Worth
Stratford Park is a 15-acre green space located in Fort Worth, Texas. Established in 1924, this neighborhood park offers a blend of recreational facilities and natural areas for visitors to enjoy.
The park features both developed amenities and undeveloped natural spaces. A portion of the original 50-acre tract was later designated as the Stratford Nature Area, preserving 35 acres of native habitat. This nature area connects to the adjacent Tandy Hills Natural Area via hiking trails, creating an urban wilderness experience within the city.
Stratford Park's landscape includes a mix of open spaces, wooded areas, and rolling terrain. The park's geology consists of limestone and clay formations from the Cretaceous period, supporting diverse plant and animal life. While some areas have been impacted by invasive species like privet, efforts are underway to restore native prairie and woodland vegetation.
The park provides opportunities for both active recreation and nature appreciation. Visitors can enjoy amenities like playgrounds and picnic areas, or explore the natural surface trails that wind through the property. The park's proximity to residential areas makes it a valuable green space for the surrounding community.
