About David Rodgers Park in Seattle
David Rodgers Park is a 9.2-acre public park located in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. The park sits on the north slope of Queen Anne Hill, offering a blend of landscaped areas and more natural settings.
Originally homesteaded by Nils Peterson, the land was later purchased by real estate broker Benjamin Franklin "B.F." Day, who deeded it to the City of Seattle in 1883. Initially named Evergreen Park due to its beautiful grove of evergreen trees, it was renamed David Rodgers Park in 1919 to honor the recently retired manager of the Skinner & Eddy Corporation, a shipbuilding firm.
The park features a steeply sculptured hillside with winding paths that lead from the more landscaped upper section down to the Queen Anne Bowl at the bottom. This design allows visitors to enjoy both manicured spaces and areas with a more natural feel.
In 2019, the park's play area underwent renovation, introducing nature-themed play equipment and educational components. The updated playground includes features designed to be accessible for children with and without disabilities.
David Rodgers Park is known for its quiet atmosphere, making it a popular spot for relaxation and recreation among local residents. The park's location also provides some panoramic views of the surrounding mountain and water scenery.
