About Penn Park in Madison
Penn Park is a 7.35-acre neighborhood park located on Madison's south side at 2101 Fisher Street. Established in 1953 when the land was purchased from Clifford Penn, the park has long served as a focal point for the surrounding community.
The park features a large playground area and sports facilities including basketball courts, a football field, and a multipurpose field. In spring 2024, Madison opened its first futsal mini-pitch court in Penn Park, providing a dedicated space for this soccer-based game typically played with 5 players per team on a small hard court.
Penn Park is home to the Southside Raiders Football Club and Southside Raiders Cheerleading Squad. It is conveniently located across the street from the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County, enhancing its role as a community gathering space.
The park underwent significant renovations to improve its facilities and accessibility. These improvements included updates to the shelter and concession/restroom building, parking lot enhancements, and other site improvements aimed at creating a more open and welcoming environment for south side residents.
Penn Park operates from 4:00 am to 10:00 pm daily. It is designated as an alcohol-free park, though permits for alcohol consumption can be obtained through the Parks Administrative Office. The parking lot at Penn Park is subject to a 3-hour parking limit at all times and is closed during the winter season.
