James Madison Park is a 12.63-acre waterfront park located along Lake Mendota in downtown Madison, Wisconsin. The park offers scenic views of the lake and provides a popular recreational space for residents and visitors.
The park features a sandy beach area for swimming and sunbathing during warmer months. There are also open grassy areas suitable for picnicking, playing sports, or relaxing. Basketball courts and sand volleyball courts are available for athletic activities.
James Madison Park is home to two historic structures. The Gates of Heaven Synagogue, built in 1863 and moved to the park in 1971, now serves as an event space and wedding venue. The Bernard-Hoover Boathouse, dating back to 1915, is leased by a local rowing club.
A playground provides recreational equipment for children. The park includes walking paths along the lakeshore and throughout the grounds. Picnic tables and benches offer places to sit and enjoy views of the water and Madison's skyline.
The park is open daily from 4:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Street parking is available along nearby roads. As an alcohol-free park, permits are required for any events serving alcohol.
