Verdese Carter Park is a 3.49-acre public park located in east Oakland, California. This well-loved community space serves an estimated 9,000 residents within a 10-minute walk from the site.
The park is home to various recreational facilities and programs. The Oakland Police Activities League (PAL) operates out of Verdese Carter Park, providing years of programming and activities for the community. In 2021, Verdese Carter Park was selected for a significant renovation project funded by the California Statewide Park Program. The Trust for Public Land, in partnership with the City of Oakland and other stakeholders, is leading the effort to improve and expand the park's facilities.
The planned improvements, based on community input from 2020, include a renovated playground area, a new park entrance with a walking loop path, a flexible event plaza featuring a stage and stepped seating, improved safety measures through additional lighting, flexible gathering spaces, a renovated multi-use field, and an updated community garden space.
In June 2015, the Golden State Warriors dedicated the basketball courts at Verdese Carter Park, adding to its recreational offerings. The park's location in east Oakland makes it an important green space in an urban environment, providing opportunities for outdoor activities, community gatherings, and nature appreciation.
