About Holly Mini Park in Oakland
Holly Mini Park is a small urban park located in East Oakland, California. Originally constructed over 60 years ago, the park had fallen into disrepair over time, prompting a community-led effort to revitalize this neighborhood space.
In 2024, Holly Mini Park underwent a significant renovation to address safety concerns and improve accessibility. The project, which cost $896,451, was a collaborative effort involving the City of Oakland, community organizations, and private donors. The renovations were designed based on input from local residents, who expressed the need for a greater variety of activities, more seating, increased shade, and an improved aesthetic.
The newly refurbished park now serves as a vital community hub in a predominantly Latino and African American neighborhood where many households earn less than $50,000 annually. Located within half a mile of nearly 12,000 residents, including 3,400 children, Holly Mini Park provides much-needed green space and recreational opportunities in an area that has historically experienced disinvestment.
The park's renovation is part of a broader effort by Oakland Public Works to improve and beautify East Oakland parks, enhancing community health, well-being, and social connection in the area.
