About Barber Park in Boise
Barber Park is a 112-acre public park located along the Boise River in Boise, Idaho. The park serves as the primary launch site for floating the Boise River during the summer months. Situated about 5 miles southeast of downtown Boise, Barber Park offers scenic views of the river and surrounding natural areas.
The park features large grassy areas, cottonwood groves, and walking paths along the riverbank. It provides habitat for various wildlife including deer, birds, and fish. Visitors can often spot bald eagles in the trees during winter months. The Boise River Greenbelt trail runs through the park, connecting it to other areas of the city.
Barber Park is managed by Ada County Parks and Waterways. In addition to river recreation, the park offers picnic facilities, a playground, and access for fishing. An event center within the park can be rented for special occasions. During float season, raft and tube rentals are available on-site, as well as a shuttle service to take floaters back to the park after their trip downriver.
The park's history dates back to the early 1900s, when it was the site of a lumber mill operated by the Barber Lumber Company. Today, it serves as an important recreational resource for Boise residents and visitors, particularly in the summer months when thousands come to float the river.
